On Trial

I'm amazed at the heart of my children, especially one who shows so much mercy but is so confused about how to have a relationship with God.

Last Tuesday night, he was lured downtown by a "friend" through a series of texts, that led him on a wild goose chase to find them.  He was met with hostility and beaten badly. He is now recovering from a broken nose and swollen massive purple blistered bruises around his eyes that cover his cheeks.  When we got him to the hospital, he was approached about pressing charges against the people that did this. He said, "It's not the right thing to do."  Later he explained that he threw the first punch, but completely overlooked the fact that the first incident of "hands on" was not done by him, but by a hostile young lady who laid her hands on him while she lectured him. He attempted to pull her away from his space, but when her boyfriend saw this, he threatened our son.  Of course, feeling threatened and now raged, our son swung amiss. The boyfriend laid in like a raging bull and the wind was quickly beaten out of him. He never got a chance to defend himself.  Yes, my son wrestled with reporting this incident that left him almost for dead in the middle of a main street, in the down town sector.  He wanted to do the right thing, but was facing fears and a serge of other emotions.  This incident appears to be a subtle set up but it reminds me of how it was literally a "set up" when Christ was led to the cross, and then he said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."  It's true!  Still today, we don't know the full spectrum of how great the consequences of our actions are and how they affect others.  The decisions and actions that we follow through on, can lead to a blessing or destruction and we must make the choice.  Is it the right thing NOT to report this incident? Was Christ's trial a just one? In both cases, a trial will bring closure to the case. It's the redemptive power of Christ's death and resurrecting life, that gives us the chance to get back up on our feet and press forward.  Case closed!
